Landlocked between France and Spain, Andorra is located in the breathtaking Pyrenees Mountains which makes it an attractive destination for skiers. But that’s not to say it can’t be enjoyed in the summer! Thanks to its many valleys and scenic lakes, summer is known as one of the best times to visit this hidden gem of a country.
Andorra does not have an airport which means that you can fly into Spain or France and drive your way to the country. This way, you get the opportunity to cover two countries in one trip! With around 9 million tourists flocking into this small yet beautiful country annually, the splendid scenery is what pulls them all in!
Andorra’s most notable activity is hiking across the Pyrenees to capture some of the most breathtaking views of the mountainous surroundings. Accessible for all, from the young to the old, hiking the country’s trails reveals gems such as Sorteny Valley and the lovely Tristaina Lakes. If you choose to take a hike, be sure to come prepared with good footwear, plenty of water and nutritious food to keep you going.
If you’re looking to relax, the lakes are a great place to start. Home to over 80 lakes, Andorra is a paradise for those looking to either relax or go for a swim. As most are isolated and high-mountain lakes, the scenic atmosphere will make you feel like you’re the only one there. We recommend visiting the Tristaina lakes as they act as great places to swim after a long hike. The hike will give you the chance to get some postcard-worthy views whilst giving you the chance to get some remarkable views of France and its summits.
There are many activities to take part in whilst in Andorra. From canyoning, spotting wildflowers, hiking and cycling through the mountainous surroundings, Andorra really is a breath of fresh air from the rest of Europe. If you’re looking for a more natural and slow-paced vacation filled with flora and fauna, be sure to add this hidden gem of a country to your bucket list!
