From parks to national trust sites and museums to zoos, the UK is home to a diverse range of places to visit for all kinds of visitors.

If you’re thinking of visiting a zoo this year, we’ve got you covered. With there being nearly fifty zoos, wildlife centres and safari parks in the UK, it can be a little difficult to narrow things down. But don’t worry, as we’ve simplified things for you in this article by listing five of the best zoos (and Safari Parks) to visit in the UK.

Whipsnade Zoo

Being the largest zoo in the country, you’ll want to make sure you visit Whipsnade Zoo at least once in your life. Located in the countryside of Bedfordshire approximately 35 miles from , the zoo is home to over 10,000 . What’s more, as a Zoological Conservation Zoo, protecting the wildlife in the zoo and protecting endangered species is a huge priority. If you do visit Whipsnade, you’ll find a herd of Asian elephants, 30 different species of butterflies, an African dwarf crocodile (the world’s smallest) and the African lion! But trust us when we tell you that this is just the tip of the iceberg!

London Zoo

London Zoo is proud to be the world’s oldest scientific zoo which means that conservation is at the heart of everything here. Being in the heart of the thriving capital, it’s a perfect choice if you’re in London for a or longer. Here you can get up, close and personal with the winged wildlife by experiencing the Bird Safari. Alternatively,  you can watch the lemurs, African wild dogs and also the pygmy hippos. Once you reach the Monkey Valley, you can watch as the monkeys leap, swing and even snooze in their new tree-top-inspired habitat!

Longleat Safari Park

Did you know that Longleat Safari Par located in the splendid Wiltshire countryside was the first African Safari park outside Africa? This is the perfect place for a family day out where you’ll run into all sorts from hippos to creepy crawlies. What’s more, you can even feed lions! However, the main reason many flock to Longleat is because of its self-drive safari experience. Home to 3 of the big 5 (lion, rhino and elephant), being in Longleat will make you feel like you’re in Africa! You can also feed the giraffes, watch as the mischievous monkeys do their thing or let the rhesus macaques take over your vehicle!

Edinburgh Zoo

If you’re in Scotland or visiting anytime soon, Edinburgh Zoo is a must-visit! Home to over 1000 rare animals, it is the only zoo in the UK that is home to giant pandas and koalas. Edinburgh Zoo also features a walkthrough experience where you can witness monkeys, lemurs, wallabies and pelicans go about their business. Other animals include the Asiatic lion, the Argentine black and white tegu, the Bagot goat and the Banteng! If you’re looking for a fun way to spend your day when in Edinburgh, be sure to add the zoo to your list!

Knowsley Safari Park

If you’re looking for the longest safari drive in the UK, look no further as Knowsley Safari Park knows how to deliver! Spanning an area of 550 acres, this is the place where you’ll get up closer with African lions, white rhinos and bison whilst sitting comfortably in your vehicle. Things may get a little crazy when you reach the baboons, so do feel to book a spot on the baboon bus if you’re worried about any damage to your vehicle. You can opt for the foot safari experience too which will allow you to marvel at the bush dogs, sea lions, Amur tigers and meerkats. With the safari park working with endangered species and monitoring the of the animals, Knowsley Safari Park ensures that all the animals are well taken off
